| - Byron Bay International Film Festival I Call for entries to Sept 29 | The annual Byron Bay International Film Festival (BBFF) attracts international filmmakers, directors, producers, performers, cultural tourists and prominent members of Australia’s film industry, not to mention plenty of appreciative locals.
BBFF is now seeking entries for the 2011 festival. All films entered will automatically be considered for nomination in any award categories that the film might qualify for during the selection process. BBFF awards include but are not limited to Best Film, Documentary, Short Film, Drama, Cinematography, Surf Film, Animation, Experimental Film, Environmental Film, Music Video, Best Young Australian Filmmaker (open to Australian directors and producers under 25) plus an award for local filmmakers.
Films in competition must have been completed after 1 January 2008. Filmmakers are encouraged to use the paperless entry system 'Withoutabox' via the BBFF website at www.bbff.com.au

| - The Nature Conservancy Australia Nature Writing Prize - closes Sept 30 | The Nature Conservancy is the world’s largest conservation organisation, operating in over 32 countries, including Australia.
The inaugural Nature Conservancy Australia Nature Writing Prize seeks to promote and celebrate the art of nature writing in Australia as well as encourage a greater appreciation of Australia’s magnificent landscapes. All entries will be independently judged by literary journalist, Sally Blakeney and renowned Australian poet, Mark Tredinnick.
The successful entry will receive a prize of $5,000 and the work will be published in Indigo journal in early 2011. This biennial prize will be offered again in 2012.

Registrations are now open for Screen It, the national competition for school aged filmmakers run annually by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image.

Teen Shorts Inc is running a film festival for NSW and Victorian high school students and intends to expand nationally in 2011.
All films are scripted, shot and edited by students and are given a screening where students can see their film up on the big screen. The first round of the competition takes place at a regional level, with winners moving into a final round.

Flickerfest, Australia's premiere international short film festival, will be held at the Bondi Pavilion on Sydney's famous Bondi Beach in January 2011, after which a selection of films will go on tour to capital cities and regional centres around Australia.
The 2011 Festival is now calling for entries in the following categories: international, Australian, documentary, GreenFlicks (environmental shorts), and FlickerUp (student competition).
To be eligible for Flickerfest, films must be no more than 35 minutes in length, must have been completed within 2 years of the closing date, and must be in English or have English subtitles. Due to the competitive nature of Flickerfest, Australian films selected for competition should not have screened publicly in NSW within six months of the festival dates.

| - Australia's Favourite Event - Nominate and Vote till Sept 12 | Who is Australia’s Favourite Event?
Now that entries in the Australian Event Awards have closed, we have opened our new ‘public choice’ award, Australia’s Favourite Event. Almost 3,000 votes have been cast from across Australia since voting opened on Thursday. Voting closes on 12th September so you still have plenty of time to rally your troops and get them voting.
Do you manage an event or do you know an event that deserves to be named Australia’s Favourite Event? Did that event take place in Australia between 1 July 2009 and 30 June 2010?
The trophy and the title of Australia’s Favourite Event will be presented at the Australian Event Awards Industry Night of Nights at Sydney Olympic Park in October.

| - 12words - the microfiction website is up again | Can you write a story in 12words?
Nambucca Valley Youth Services Centre thinks you can. They are running their national microfiction website for the second year. Everyone is welcome to logon and write stories but only 15-25 year olds can win a prize (like a $1,000 writing mentorship).
Funded by The Ian Potter Foundation; sponsored by Random House, Burnside and Avant Card; and affiliated with the National Library of Australia and TAFE NSW, this is a fantastic National project run from our region. It runs until December 1.
