Camden Haven Music Festival - 25 April
4 May Laurieton - Kendall & Port Macquarie
Over two big weeks, Camden Haven will come alive
celebrating its award winning 13th annual music festival. Classical
favourites including works by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Schubert, Bach
and Mendolssohn will be played by some of Australia's best classical
musicians.
The Australia Ensemble and the Grainger String Quartet will perform,
as well as viola soloist Patricia Pollett. The second part of the
festival encompasses world music, folk music, jazz and comedy. Events
will include salsa dance classes and a salsa party, Mara vocal workshops
and performances, The Carpenters from Kempsey and much more. See stringed
instruments in the making by visiting the studio of violin and classical
guitar makers Graham Caldersmith and Angela Macpherson. Full program

Country Arts Support Program Funds 8 Projects
on the Mid North Coast - 139 Projects Statewide
Arts Mid North Coast, Regional
Arts NSW and the NSW Ministry for the Arts are pleased to announce
that there are 139 successful projects being funded through the Country
Arts Support Program, in 2008 statewide totaling approx $204,000,
with 8 projects being funded for the Mid North Coast Region, totaling
$15,300.
CASP is a key regional arts funding program for NSW, which provides
support to employ artists in locally initiated arts and cultural projects.
The aim is to provide access to arts activities for small communities,
to encourage communities to work together on cultural projects, to
foster cultural diversity in the regions and to ensure that regional
and rural areas have an artistic voice.
Projects that have been funded for 2008 in the Mid North Coast Region
include: Biggest Bhangra Bush Dance at the Woolgoolga Curry Fest;
Garden Art in Forster; All that Jazz in the Manning; ExtravaDance
in Bowraville; Capturing the Beauty of Wingham through time at the
Wingham Akoostik Festival; Macleay Valley Arts Council Ball; Coffs
Harbour Arts Council - Coffs Coast Youth Arts in FOCUS and Bago Magic
Performance Group Inc for a New Tutor

Japanese Festival of Childrens Day - Botanic
Garden in Coffs Harbour on Sunday 4 May 2008
Coffs Harbour City Council the Friends of the
Botanic Garden and the Coffs Harbour Australia-Japan Society are organising
the second Japanese Festival of Children's Day at the Japanese Section
of the North Coast Regional Botanic Garden in Coffs Harbour on Sunday
4 May 2008.
The inaugural event last year was a great success and won a national
award in the single project category of the 2007 Australian Sister
Cities Association National Awards.
Entries are now open for the 2008 NSW Tourism
Awards and the industry is
encouraged to be part of the States premier tourism event. The
NSW Tourism Awards is managed in partnership by Tourism NSW and the
Tourism Industry Council NSW. Nominations for the 2008 NSW Tourism
Awards close on 18 July and entries close on 2 September,
with the finalists to be announced in October. For information about

to organise and manage events for the Galari Domigbane Project
a cultural exchange theatre project between Aboriginal and Sierra

coordinator will work alongside a Sierra Leonean trainee project coordinator.
The Trainee coordinators will be mentored in the following areas:
Events Management, Dealing with Government, Cultural Awareness Practice
and working with young people. You must be within the age bracket
of 18-35 years old and from an Aboriginal cultural background, preferably
living in the Marrickville area.

SHOW a new initiative by the FOCUS committee.
The POSTCARD SHOW is an exhibition to be held
at the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery opening April 4 until May 10.
Artists are invited to submit small works for exhibition. The works
will be for sale.
There will also be a Frst Prize of $200 awarded along with a Peoples
Choice Award of $100 and a FOCUS Members Prize of $100.
As an added incentive the gallery director Dr. Leigh Somers will also
select a work from the exhibition to be published as a postcard for
the Regional Gallery.

Dorothea Mackellar. Poetry Awards - close
2 June 2008 "Forests,
Feathers, Fins and Fur" is this year's theme for country's largest
poetry writing competition for students, which celebrates the work
of well-known Australian poet Dorothea Mackellar.
"These important awards provide a unique voice for our youth.
I encourage all schools to participate and write about our precious
environment."
This year, the poetry awards take on an environmental theme with the
Namoi Catchment Management Authority (CMA) also throwing its support
behind the event.
Authors Sue Gough and Prue Mason are the judges, and winners will
be notified during NLNW (1-7 September).
A National Presentation Ceremony will be held in Gunnedah on 5 September
2008.

CBCA(NSW) Frustrated Writers Mentoring Program

Children's Book Council
(NSW) Frustrated Writers Mentoring Program awards for 2008 are now
open for all unpublished writers living in NSW and writing for children.
This highly successful mentoring program, funded by ArtsNSW, has nurtured
emerging writers for nearly a decade. Three categories of writers:
Junior (under 15 years), Young Adult (15 to 20) and Senior (over 20).
All kinds of writing are acceptable as
entries and appropriate mentors are carefully chosen to help award

2008 Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award - Entries
Open 31st March 2008 - Close 1st August
Entry is open to all artists who are residents
of Australia who can submit up to two drawings can be submitted the
2008 Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award.
In 2008 the award celebrates 20 years of promoting innovation and
excellence in Australian drawing and has increased to $30 000 to coincide
with this important anniversary.
The major award of $15,000 is acquisitive, along with further acquisitions
to the value of $15,000.
A selection panel will select between 45 and 55 works for the award.
The exhibition of the selected entries opens at the Grafton Regional
Gallery Friday 24 October. It is from this exhibition that the judge,
Hendrik Kolenberg, will select the overall winner.

NRWC - Residential mentorship opportunity -

Now in its ninth year, the Northern Rivers Writers
Centres annual residential mentorship has assisted some of the
regions best writers to get their first novel published,
The chance to access this unique local opportunity is coming round
again, with entries closing for this years NRWC residential
mentorship on 24 April.
The mentorship offers emerging Northern Rivers writers a five-day
residency at a beautiful guesthouse in the hills of Byron Bay from
26 to 30 May.
The Centre is looking for writers with exceptional ability and commitment
who are working in areas of fiction and narrative non-fiction and
encourages anyone with a well-developed manuscript to apply.
The mentorship is funded by Arts NSW and includes accommodation, tutoring
and two meals per day. Applicants must be Northern Rivers residents,
aged 18 or over and a current member of the Northern Rivers Writers

Myfuture Student Video Competition Launches 12 May 2008
- This year the competition
will run earlier to maximise opportunities for senior high school
students to take part. Competition launch is 12th May with entries
closing on 18th August 2008. This is an exciting opportunity for young
people Australia wide to explore their futures in a creative and innovative
way. The competition has a prize pool of over $5000 and is supported
by valuable production resources. Tune into THE CREW, 5.00pm Mondays
on SBS Television for competition updates and look out for the resource
pack arriving in schools early May.

Women in Business Regional Program -
The Women in Business Regional Program has been developed to improve
the business skills of women who own or operate a small business in
a regional community and assist them to grow their business. The Program
is very practical and is designed to meet the needs of local businesswomen.
The program offers businesswomen a combination of: Business skills
training workshops; Opportunities to work with an experienced business
person, who will act as a mentor to small groups of women on the program;
and Networking events, where you will be able to meet other businesswomen
and representatives of local business organisations.
The program will be held in PORT MACQUARIE and will run over
a 3-month period (Yet to be finalized, commencing May/June). The cost
of the full program is only $150.00 (exclusive of GST).

Small Grants provide funding to Indigenous organisations and organisations
that work with Indigenous young people and communities to develop
new initiatives, as well as the expansion of existing successful
initiatives. Indigenous Small Grants offer funds up to $5,000 to

Announcing Community
Partnerships grant opportunities for 2008... Community
Partnerships is pleased to announce the launch of its re-vamped project
categories for next year:
- Project and professional development (category B) - $0 to $20,000;
and
- Projects with public outcomes (category C) - $20,000 to $35,000
Applicants will now have more opportunities to apply for funding through
these categories, with applications accepted anytime from 1 February
to 1 September 2008. There will be four funding rounds, the first
round open from the 1 Feb to 3 March 2008 followed by three other

Projects - Ongoing - Aboriginal Heritage
Projects provide grants of up to $75,000 to conserve Aboriginal heritage
and encourage greater understanding of Aboriginal culture. The program
assists in the conservation of culturally significant Aboriginal sites,
documents community events and contributes to Aboriginal tourism.
The aim is to sustain long-term heritage benefits and create greater
knowledge of Aboriginal traditions throughout the greater community.

accepting entries for Your Eyes Only. - Closing Date for entries is
2 September 2008
Your Eyes Only is a creative funding opportunity
for young people 12 to 15 years to submit a creative entry that celebrates
the strengths of their community through their eyes. Applications
will be judged by a committee of young people aged 12 to 15 years
from across Australia.
Successful entrants will nominate a community group working with young
people in their community (for example a school, youth group or sporting
group), to receive a donation of up to $3,000. This donation would
then be used by the community group to further its work by purchasing
much needed equipment or adding funds to an existing program.

ACO2 connects the next generation of talented young Australian musicians

This year we have a Second Prize, with the Art Almanac giving advertising

Free Workshop in Great Lakes - Attracting Funds
and Resources for community groups - 6 May, 10am-4pm - Great Lakes
Council Chambers, Breese Parade, Forster
This workshop will focus on developing strategies
and preparing proposals for funding, sponsorship and other resourcing
options. It will work through developing the basics of a grant or
sponsorship application for funding or other resources and get you
to identify and target potential sources of support.
This course will show you how to identify sources of assistance and
how to secure it. It illustrates how groups can receive support beyond
cash. It also sets out ways of preparing strong funding submissions.
Both staff and volunteers involved in all community-based organisations
are welcome to enrol.
This is a FREE workshops delivered by Arts Mid North Coast and Great
Lakes Council. Lunch, morning and afternoon teas are provided by Great
Lakes Council.
Council's Community Grants Program closes 26 May, so this is an opportunity
to polish you application. Successful applicants in the previous funding

Training on Business Planning for community
groups - 30 May, 10am-4pm - Great Lakes Council Chambers, Breese Parade,
Forster - The cost to the participant will only be $25 including training
resources and all catering for the day (lunch, morning and afternoon
teas). This one day course
is a nationally accredited unit. To enrol people can complete

Participants will look at where their organisation is now, where
they want to be and how to get there. By the end of the workshop you
will have drafted key elements of a Business Plan for your community
organisation.
This workshop will cover the essential areas of how to contribute
to planning and management for not-for-profit organisations. This
course de-mystifies the process of business planning and turns it
into a tool that can be used effectively by groups of all sizes. It
unpicks the jargon and gives you the skills and language to be able
to clearly set out your long term plans and share them with potential
support networks like local government. Although the workshop content
is geared towards cultural organisations, volunteers working in all
community-based organisations in regional Australia are welcome to
enrol. The more people who come to a workshop from an organisation,
the greater the benefit will be, because you can work together on
issues. This workshops is funded by the Australian Government, through
