Camden Haven Music Festival - 25 April – 4 May Laurieton - Kendall & Port Macquarie
Over two big weeks, Camden Haven will come alive celebrating its award winning 13th annual music festival. Classical favourites including works by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Schubert, Bach and Mendolssohn will be played by some of Australia's best classical musicians.
The Australia Ensemble and the Grainger String Quartet will perform, as well as viola soloist Patricia Pollett. The second part of the festival encompasses world music, folk music, jazz and comedy. Events will include salsa dance classes and a salsa party, Mara vocal workshops and performances, The Carpenters from Kempsey and much more. Youth Worker (Aboriginal) Nambucca - applications close Friday 11 April 2008 - $563.52 to $652.16 per week + super - 4 days (28 hours) per week (5 days – 35 hours/week for first 12 months)
Council is seeking an enthusiastic and committed youth worker who can develop and coordinate a range of programs and activities for the indigenous youth of the Nambucca Shire.
Aboriginality is essential combined with a strong understanding of current youth issues and demonstrated ability to work effectively with young people. The successful applicant will also require a driver’s licence, have demonstrated experience and skills in co-ordinating programs and activities (including budgeting) and solid PC and keyboarding skills.
The position will be full-time (5 days per week) for the first 12 months thereafter reverting to 4 days per week subject to receipt of ongoing funding from the NSW Department of Community Services.

POSTCARD SHOW a new initiative by the FOCUS committee.
The POSTCARD SHOW is an exhibition to be held at the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery opening April 4 until May 10.
Artists are invited to submit small works for exhibition. The works will be for sale.
There will also be a Frst Prize of $200 awarded along with a Peoples Choice Award of $100 and a FOCUS Members Prize of $100.
As an added incentive the gallery director Dr. Leigh Somers will also select a work from the exhibition to be published as a postcard for the Regional Gallery.

Accessible Arts in partnership with the Bundanon Trust are providing an artist in residency opportunity for a NSW artist with a disability. Applications close Friday April 18. Artists practising in the visual arts, design, digital technologies, film, literature, dance and theatre are eligible to apply. The successful applicant will undertake the residency in November 2008 and will receive a $3000 stipend to undertake the residency. Dorothea Mackellar. Poetry Awards - close 2 June 2008 "Forests, Feathers, Fins and Fur" is this year's theme for country's largest poetry writing competition for students, which celebrates the work of well-known Australian poet Dorothea Mackellar.
"These important awards provide a unique voice for our youth. I encourage all schools to participate and write about our precious environment."
This year, the poetry awards take on an environmental theme with the Namoi Catchment Management Authority (CMA) also throwing its support behind the event.
Authors Sue Gough and Prue Mason are the judges, and winners will be notified during NLNW (1-7 September).
A National Presentation Ceremony will be held in Gunnedah on 5 September 2008.

CBCA(NSW) Frustrated Writers Mentoring Program Awards 2008 - Entries close on Monday

Librarians! Please spread the word about these awards to encourage emerging children's writers. Any of your readers, as well as yourselves, could be eligible to enter.
Children's Book Council (NSW) Frustrated Writers Mentoring Program awards for 2008 are now open for all unpublished writers living in NSW and writing for children. This highly successful mentoring program, funded by ArtsNSW, has nurtured emerging writers for nearly a decade. Three categories of writers: Junior (under 15 years), Young Adult (15 to 20) and Senior (over 20). All kinds of writing are acceptable as

2008 Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award - Entries Open 31st March 2008 - Close 1st August
Entry is open to all artists who are residents of Australia who can submit up to two drawings can be submitted the 2008 Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award.
In 2008 the award celebrates 20 years of promoting innovation and excellence in Australian drawing and has increased to $30 000 to coincide with this important anniversary.
The major award of $15,000 is acquisitive, along with further acquisitions to the value of $15,000.
A selection panel will select between 45 and 55 works for the award. The exhibition of the selected entries opens at the Grafton Regional Gallery Friday 24 October. It is from this exhibition that the judge, Hendrik Kolenberg, will select the overall winner.

Sing Australia's Fun is Spreading - Laurieton has decided to join in the 'singing fun for everyone' and host an introductory Workshop to get a Sing Australia Choir established in the Camden Haven. To find out what it is all about, come along to the Laurieton School of Arts Hall, Bold Street, Laurieton from 2pm to 4pm on Friday 18th April 2008.
The Sing Australia Choirs are part of a National Network of choirs, founded by Colin Slater OAM in 1985. There are now over 90 choirs across Australia with over 3,000 members.
If there is sufficient interest in the Camden Haven to get a choir established, the newly formed choir will meet each Friday from 2pm - 4pm in the School of Arts Hall at Laurieton from Friday 2nd May.

NRWC - Residential mentorship opportunity - Applications close at 2pm on Thursday 24 April
Now in its ninth year, the Northern Rivers Writers’ Centre’s annual residential mentorship has assisted some of the region’s best writers to get their first novel published,
The chance to access this unique local opportunity is coming round again, with entries closing for this year’s NRWC residential mentorship on 24 April.
The mentorship offers emerging Northern Rivers writers a five-day residency at a beautiful guesthouse in the hills of Byron Bay from 26 to 30 May.
The Centre is looking for writers with exceptional ability and commitment who are working in areas of fiction and narrative non-fiction and encourages anyone with a well-developed manuscript to apply.
The mentorship is funded by Arts NSW and includes accommodation, tutoring and two meals per day. Applicants must be Northern Rivers residents, aged 18 or over and a current member of the Northern Rivers Writers’ Centre. Applications close at 2pm on Thursday 24 April. Announcing Community Partnerships grant opportunities for 2008... Community Partnerships is pleased to announce the launch of its re-vamped project categories for next year:
- Project and professional development (category B) - $0 to $20,000; and
- Projects with public outcomes (category C) - $20,000 to $35,000
Applicants will now have more opportunities to apply for funding through these categories, with applications accepted anytime from 1 February to 1 September 2008. There will be four funding rounds, the first round open from the 1 Feb to 3 March 2008 followed by three other rounds throughout the year. The Foundation for Young Australians is now accepting entries for Your Eyes Only. - Closing Date for entries is 2 September 2008
Your Eyes Only is a creative funding opportunity for young people 12 to 15 years to submit a creative entry that celebrates the strengths of their community through their eyes. Applications will be judged by a committee of young people aged 12 to 15 years from across Australia.
Successful entrants will nominate a community group working with young people in their community (for example a school, youth group or sporting group), to receive a donation of up to $3,000. This donation would then be used by the community group to further its work by purchasing much needed equipment or adding funds to an existing program.

Taree Eisteddfod - The syllabus for the Vocal Section of the Taree & District Eisteddfod is now available. The dates for this section are from the 22nd April to the 26th April, 2008--which takes place in the second week of the Easter holidays. The closing date for entries is 22nd February, 2008.

This workshop will focus on developing strategies and preparing proposals for funding, sponsorship and other resourcing options. It will work through developing the basics of a grant or sponsorship application for funding or other resources and get you to identify and target potential sources of support.
This course will show you how to identify sources of assistance and how to secure it. It illustrates how groups can receive support beyond cash. It also sets out ways of preparing strong funding submissions.
Both staff and volunteers involved in all community-based organisations are welcome to enrol.

It unpicks the jargon and gives you the skills and language to be able to clearly set out your long term plans and share them with potential support networks like local government. Although the workshop content is geared towards cultural organisations, volunteers working in all community-based organisations in regional Australia are welcome to enrol. The more people who come to a workshop from an organisation, the greater the benefit will be, because you can work together on issues.
