groups, organisations and firms to register to be included in a proposed
internet-based 'Coffs Harbour Creative Industries Directory'.
The directory will be located on Council's website, and will be accessible
to those working in the Creative Industries as well as the general
public.Eligible to register are visual, literary and performing artists
and the support industries assisting them in these fields. Support
industries include hire, supply and maintenance, specializing professionals,
industry educators, venues, including galleries and theatres, and
much more.

MID NORTH COAST REGIONAL COUNCIL FOR SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Council for Social Development is seeking a highly motivated and
skilled individual to manage staff and operations across the area.
We are seeking a person with tertiary qualifications in Social Science
or equivalent, extensive experience in a range of community service
and community development activities, possessing a high level of
communication, planning, staff supervision, submission and policy
writing skills, knowledge of IT systems, and experience in advocating
at a high level for social justice issues.
The position is currently based in Macksville and requires regional
and state travel. The initial performance based contract will be
for 35 hours pw at SACS (NSW) Award Grade 6. A remuneration package
in the range of $60,000 will be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Inaugural Lower North Coast Photographic Art Prize - Monday, 7 January

- The Watermark Literary Society is offering
a residency for an emerging Australian writer of natural history,
nature and place.
The Fellowship includes: - single/double accommodation in the Camden
Haven, on the mid north coast of New South Wales, for a 6 week period

- mentorship by Martin Harrison, a widely published poet and critic
who directs the program in Writing and Cultural Studies at University

2008 Coffs Harbour Lillipilli Art & Craft Exhibition
- Entries for the Coffs Harbour Lillipilli Art & Craft Exhibition

The biggest exhibition of its kind for the year between Sydney and
Brisbane, the Lillipilli will display around 400 all new works of
art and craft from 9am to 4.30pm daily, The exhibition will be mounted
at the Norm Jordan Pavilion in the Coffs Harbour Showgrounds, right
on the Pacific Highway in the heart of the city. The exhibition is
organised and run by the Woolgoolga Art Group (WAG), which is a volunteer
group formed way back in 1972, and which has its own working gallery
in Turon Parade, Woolgoolga.
The New South Wales Local Government Cultural Awards celebrate
council cultural success apply for a Cultural Award, if you work in

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST YOUTH CHORAL & EARLY CHILDHOOD MUSIC -
Vacancies will occur in 2008 for qualified musicians to work within
the Hastings Youth Choir group. In this organisation there exists
three youth choirs aimed at developing choral and vocal skills in
a nurturing environment leading to performances of a high standard.
This is a weekly commitment during NSWDSE school terms in Port Macquarie.
In particular we seek:- # Choral leader for Melodic Minors ( primary
school aged students ) Monday 4.00 p.m. rehearsal # Early Childhood
Music Educator for Babies ( & mothers ) music class. As this is

KENDALL NATIONAL VIOLIN COMPETITION 2008
DATES ANNOUNCED!
Jonathan Mui, winner of the 2007 Competition was recently judged joint
winner of the Queensland Concerto Competition in Brisbane. He enjoyed
performing with his Caldersmith violin and is looking forward to playing
it when he returns in February for the fee-paying recital tour that
is part of his prize.
Jonathans recital dates are: Wednesday 20 February (7 pm) in
Sydney at The Manors of Mosman; Saturday 23 February (2 pm) at Nambucca
Heads and Sunday 24 February (2 pm) at Kendall School of Arts. He
will be accompanied on each occasion by Jeanell Carrigan.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards 2008
- The 54 Rotary Clubs of Rotary District 9650
will be sponsoring the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) from
the 12th 19th April 2008.
Young participants from as far north as Coffs Harbour, as far west
as Lightning Ridge and south from Forster will be attending the 7
day program.
RYLA is aimed at encouraging and developing leadership and social
skills for young people aged from between 18 25, so that they
can more effectively contribute to their communities.

Hifalootin is are looking for new members for our newly established
flute choir based in Port Macquarie. We
meet on Saturdays 3pm till 5pm at the "Mac" Adams Music
Centre (behind the open air swimming pool). We are all around early
4th grade AMEB level and are enjoying the experience of playing with
other flautists in a friendly, small group. Our musical diet is quite
varied (baroque, folk, jazz, contemporary and modern) and we are also
learning to improvise (It's not as hard as you think!).

in an exhibition titled "Coastal Flow" at the Macleay Valley

Concept - The exhibition, "Coastal Flow" will be a selected

POSTCARD
SHOW a new initiative by the FOCUS committee.
The POSTCARD SHOW is an exhibition to be held
at the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery opening April 4 until May 10.
Artists are invited to submit small works for exhibition. The works
will be for sale.
There will also be a Frst Prize of $200 awarded along with a Peoples
Choice Award of $100 and a FOCUS Members Prize of $100.
As an added incentive the gallery director Dr. Leigh Somers will also
select a work from the exhibition to be published as a postcard for
the Regional Gallery.

Springboard: Entrepreneurship For Australian Designers - Applications

Springboard is a mentoring program that will
enable 100 of Australia's most promising furniture, accessories and
homewares designers to develop their professional careers in local
and international markets.
The 12 month project encompasses two stages of valuable training,
delivered though workshops and one-to-one mentorship.
The program covers sustainable best practice, financial management,
contractual law, media relations, IP, manufacturing process, retail
and export strategy. Mentors include eco-design specialist John Gertsakis,
Swedish market strategist Mats Ekström, and former brand consultant
for Apple Computer Europe Bradford Gorman.
A list of guest mentors, including cofounder of Dinosaur Designs Lianne
Rossler, media specialists and seminal Australian designers will provide

Youth Band Port Macquarie, 2008 is
off to a flying start for Port Macquarie Hastings Municipal Band with
the Youth Band coming out of recess as from their first rehearsal
on Wednesday 13th February. If any young player might be interested
in playing with the Youth Band, please feel free to come on Wednesday
13th February, or to drop by on any other rehearsal night. The
Youth Band will be under the batons of Frank Ruger and Anne Hamilton,
and it will cater for the age group from 12yrs to 17yrs. The first
rehearsal will be from 5pm to 6.30pm, followed by a bbq.
Rehearsals are to be held each week from 5pm to 6.30pm at the headquarters
of the Band, the Mac Adams Music Centre off Gordon Street, Port Macquarie.

The JB Seed - Indigenous Recording - Closing 16 March
- A grant to provide the opportunity
for an Indigenous musical performer or act in any genre, with original
material, to record a 5 track EP. The grant winner will collaborate
with Buchman (AKA Tony Buchen) to produce, arrange, record, mix
and master their music in his studio in Sydney. The JB Seed will
provide and arrange transport, accommodation, and living expenses
whilst recording, and provide a budget for artwork and to manufacture
1,000 copies of the EP. Applicants need to provide a sample of their
music on CD, a brief biography of the performers involved and a
vision of what they hope to achieve by recording this EP. Details

The JB Seed - Professional & Skills Development - Closing 16 March
- A grant is open
to musicians and musical technicians who wish to enhance their skill
base or career choices by undertaking further study, residencies,
mentoring relationships, seminars, or conferences with recognised
practitioner/s of excellence. Applicants must include an abridged
relevant biography, their vision of the benefits of their project,
an abridged biography of the proposed practitioner and confirmation
that the practitioner is willing and able to be involved in the project.
The program can occur within Australia, or if the expertise exists

The JB Seed - Social Activism Through the Arts - Closing 16 March
- This program
embraces all art forms and is open to any projects or initiatives
that serve to educate and/or create debate and awareness on current,
socially relevant issues. Applicants will be required to explain their
project idea, who will be involved and what they want to achieve,
as well as how their art form (whether music, film, painting, sculpture,
performance, etc) will be used in the project. A brief plan for how
the project will be marketed is also required.

The JB Seed - Management Workshop Initiative - Closing 16 March
- This workshop offers practical strategies
for managing a band or performer in the establishment phase of their
career. The workshop will bring together a group of significant professionals
in the music industry, including managers, distributors, radio promoters,
radio representatives, publicists, lawyers, grant writers, publishers,
and artists to share their knowledge and offer strategic advice on
ways to enhance performers' opportunities in the music industry. Up

The JB Seed - The Jacqui McCoy (Geia) Trust - Closing 16 March
- This trust seeks to honour the memory
of the tireless work of the late Jacqui McCoy (Geia), who devoted
much of her life to assisting disadvantaged artists from all backgrounds,
but particularly Indigenous Australian artists. Every application
submitted to The JB Seed in 2008 will automatically be eligible to
be awarded funds from The Jacqui McCoy trust. The recipient of funds
from this trust will be selected at the committees discretion,
from within the four JB Seed category applicants. The committee will
be looking for projects that meet with Jacquis ethos, projects
that seek to assist in growing a healthy Australian Arts community,
where artists feel empowered and supported to express themselves and

Small Grants provide funding to Indigenous organisations and organisations

Country Arts Support Program (CASP) - Applications for 2008 are now

CASP provides small grants to arts and community
organisations, Regional Arts Boards and local arts councils in regional
NSW for short term, locally initiated projects. The aims of the program
are:
to assist locally determined cultural activities;
to increase opportunities for regionally based groups to access a
diverse range of arts programs;
to enable communities to explore and express their cultural identities;
to encourage communities to work together to develop and participate
in cultural experiences;
to bring social and economic benefits to the community through training,
employment and promotional activities; and

Fto Young Filmmakers Fund - Round 23 - Deadline April 14
- Regional Nsw & Western Sydney Filmmakers Only The Young Filmmakers
Fund supports new and emerging filmmakers in NSW (18-35 years old)
and provides a unique opportunity for young talent to break into the
highly competitive film and television industry. There are two funding
rounds per year with up to four projects selected in each round. Successful
applicants receive grants of up to $30,000 for production and/or post-production.

- Festivals Australia is an Australian Government cultural funding

A Churchill Fellowship is the award of an opportunity
through the provision of financial support, to enable Australian citizens
from all walks of life to travel overseas to undertake an analysis,
study or investigation of a project or an issue that cannot be readily
undertaken in Australia. There are approximately 120 Churchill Fellowships
available for award nationally for the 2008 application round and
37 of these are the result of generous donation and sponsorship by

Partnerships grant opportunities for 2008... Community
Partnerships is pleased to announce the launch of its re-vamped project
categories for next year:
- Project and professional development (category B) - $0 to $20,000;
and
- Projects with public outcomes (category C) - $20,000 to $35,000
Applicants will now have more opportunities to apply for funding through
these categories, with applications accepted anytime from 1 February
to 1 September 2008. There will be four funding rounds, the first
round open from the 1 Feb to 3 March 2008 followed by three other

Projects - Ongoing - Aboriginal Heritage
Projects provide grants of up to $75,000 to conserve Aboriginal heritage
and encourage greater understanding of Aboriginal culture. The program
assists in the conservation of culturally significant Aboriginal sites,
documents community events and contributes to Aboriginal tourism.
The aim is to sustain long-term heritage benefits and create greater
knowledge of Aboriginal traditions throughout the greater community.

Portable Woodfired Raku Kiln Construction - two day workshop on 1st
and 2nd March at the Coffs Harbour TAFE campus in Glenreagh Street
You are invited to the workshop Coastal ClayMakers
has planned for early March. Swiss potter Stefan Jakob is a specialist
in building and firing small wood fired raku kilns and will be holding
a two day workshop on 1st and 2nd March at the Coffs Harbour TAFE
campus in Glenreagh Street. Workshop fees are $120 per person for
the two days. Those who would like to build their own kiln will need
to advise the committee so that materials can be organised beforehand.
The materials cost will be in the vicinity of $160 per kiln. Stefan
will bring the materials from Sydney so he will need the required
information early. Participants will be able to fire their own pots
in the kilns they make so bring pots and glazes. The workshop details
