to go on to more advanced training programs such as the Sydney Sinfonia
and the SSO Fellowship program.
In Playerlink young players take part in three days of intensive
workshops and explore ensemble playing, musical interpretation and
technical accuracy. The opportunity to play alongside and rub shoulders
with members of Australia's premier orchestra provides students
with a valuable insight into the world of a professional musician
says Carol Helmers. The Conservatorium is delighted to support the
project and thrilled that a local school, John Paul College, have
offered their support by providing the venue for the project.
Playerlink will conclude with a "Work in Progress" Public
Concert showcasing the entire orchestra of over 80 players. The
event will take place at John Paul College, Hogbin Drive at 1pm
on Sunday 31 August in the Main Hall. Entry is by gold coin donation
with all proceeds being generously donated by Principal Ian Walton
to the Conservatorium for future music projects

Theatre Studies
at the University of New England will be offering a new online Masters
degree in Applied Theatre Studies from 2009.
This can be studied entirely off campus and part time. It is the
equivalent of one years full-time study.
The course is intended to allow theatre practitioners and teachers
to extend their professional knowledge by developing and utilising
research skills in a relevant area of study, and then applying,
testing and evaluating the knowledge gained in the creation of a
practical project.
The course assumes that students will have skills and experience
in theatre practice already, and we hope that students will discover
and test new approaches to aspects of theatre practice as part of
their study.
The course is HECS-based, but students who pay full fees may be
eligible for FEE-HELP.
