v Milestone for Mid North Coast RADO - Congratulations to Richard Holloway, Arts Mid North Coast's Regional Arts Development Officer (RADO), who is fast approaching ten years of service with the organisation. Since August 1999 Richard's role has been to initiate, facilitate, promote and implement arts projects and cultural development throughout the Mid North Coast region of NSW. Richard works with Local Government Councils, Arts based groups and organisations as well as individual artists to assist them in identifying opportunities for funding and to support regional cultural activities across the region. Our heartfelt thanks to Richard for his ten years of invaluable work.
v Landmark Arts and Health Conference - 10 – 13 November 2009, Port Macquarie - The Art of Good Health and Wellbeing will showcase best practice arts and health programs and research to the world! Join leading experts and delegates from the UK, US, Canada and Australia to debate, discuss, share ideas and exchange information about the positive impact that the arts can have on health and wellbeing. The event will change perceptions about the efficacy of Arts and Health in hospitals, schools, aged care facilities, community health services, health promotion and medical education. v Building Blox Workshops and Forums for Artists and Craftsworkers professional Development
In 2009 the BuildingBlox Project presents a program of forums and workshops being held across the Mid North Coast. These are aimed at improving economic opportunities for visual artists and craftspeople by developing professional practice and by getting artworks into the marketplace. The BuildingBlox program offers extensive information and support for artists in the areas of Audience & Marketing, Industry & Business and Partnership & Network Development. Forums and workshops will include presentations by artists, craftspeople and industry specialists and participants will have the opportunity of exchanging ideas, getting practical advice and experience from 'hands on' workshop activities and tapping into the growing vibrancy of creative practice on the Mid North Coast.

v Dunghutti-Ngaku Aboriginal Art Gallery (DNAAG) is a new Gallery showcasing the works of local indigenous artists of the Dunghutti region. On show at the Gallery is a wide collection of works including paintings, silk scarves, shoes, jewellery, didgeridoo's, turtle shells by establish and emerging Aboriginal Artists such as Milton Budge, John Kelly, Gus Kelly, Larry Morris, Esther Quinlin, Peggy Quinlan, Sonny Bell to name a few.

Belconnen Arts Centre Incorporated is seeking to employ 3 highly skilled permanent staff
. All positions are new and subject to regular performance reviews. Regular rostered weekend work required. Superannuation and other entitlements applicable.
Operations manager p/t 28 hrs/wk flexible $55,000 - $60,000 pro rata - Duties: Maintain the facility, furniture and all equipment including IT and multi-media, manage OH&S, support program staff and all events at the centre. It is envisaged the position may become fulltime within 12 months.
Administration officer f/t $45,000 -$50,000 - Duties: Support the Director, maintain all records, operate reception, manage volunteers, assist with cash management and book-keeping, maintain the website and assist with marketing and promotion.
Finance officer p/t 10hrs/wk $55,000 - $60,000 pro rata, flexible delivery - Duties: Manage the accounts, banking, payroll, regular reporting and budgeting for the organisation. May consider fee for service by an appropriate accounting organisation.
Experience in the not for profit sector is essential. Demonstrated experience within the arts and cultural sector is desirable but not essential.

v ABC Artpost - Putting Regional Artists On The Digital Map - Artpost, an interactive website and short video series for TV broadcast, which showcases artists working in regional and remote parts of the country, has recently been launched. The site provides the tools for students, teachers, art lovers and artists to create short videos about who they are and their work, for inclusion on an interactive digital map of Australia. ABC is seeding the map by making 25 videos to kick off the initiative - the intention being that 25 videos will become 50, 50 will become 500 and so on until the digital map is coloured in with pockets of creative communities.www.abc.net.au/artpost

Mitchell School of Art is one week of art workshops, covering a variety of media and styles including watercolour, acrylic, oil, mixed media, printmaking, pastels, botanical and drawing. Classes range from contemporary to traditional and are suitable for raw beginners to advanced. Mitchell School of Art is held twice a year, January and July in Bathurst at Charles Sturt University campus.
The workshops at the Mitchell School of Arts are structured so to streamline the learning process. v EMSLA Call For Entries - Entries close 7 August 2009 - Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery invites all artists who reside in Australia to submit still life paintings in the EUTICK MEMORIAL STILL LIFE AWARD which promotes excellence and innovation in Australian still life. The major award of $15,000 is acquisitive, with prize total exceeding $20,000. Judges include John McDonald, Dr. Gene Sherman, Jude McBean and Steve Bush. v The 2009 Osmosis photography, art and poetry competition - closes on Friday 31 July, 2009. - has officially opened and this year the theme encourages an exploration of water and its life-giving qualities.
The competition, now in its seventh year, is open to Hastings residents of all ages and is funded by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council as part of its program of educating the broader community about water conservation and environmental sustainability.
Photographers, writers and artists are encouraged to submit work that explores the mystical, magical, playful and spiritual elements of water.
Those who participate have the chance of winning part of the $1600 in prize money, having their work exhibited during Water Week in October as well as published in the 2010 Osmosis calendar.
This year the competition is free with a maximum of three entries per person. The competition closes on Friday 31 July, 2009.
Entry forms are available at all Port Macquarie Hastings Council offices and libraries.
All money raised from the sale of the Osmosis calendar is donated to WaterAid Australia for clean water projects in developing countries.
The Osmosis event is proudly supported and acknowledged by the United Nations.

v The 2009 Manning Art Prize - Entries close on the 14th August 2009 - The Friends of the Manning Regional Art Gallery Inc. proudly announce that entries are now open for the 2009 Manning Art Prize, organised in partnership with the Manning Regional Art Gallery, City of Greater Taree. Entries close on the 14th August 2009 and the judge for this year's Art Prize will be Reg Richardson AM, Director of The Art Gallery of NSW Foundation, former Deputy Chair of the Museum of Contemporary Art and prominent art collector.
Total prize money is $15 000 across two categories of entries, works in 2D and works in 3D. The overall winner (acquisitive) of the 2009 Manning Art Prize attracts the major prize of $10 000. There is no set theme for the 2009 Manning Art Prize.

v Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize is calling for artists to enter their work offering a chance to win a total of $13,000 AUD in prize money. Entries close Friday 14 August
The Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize is the only Australian national prize for free standing sculptures of smaller dimensions (up to 80cm) and annually attracts over 450 entries. The judges of the 2009 Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize are Geoffrey Cassidy, Director of Artbank and Diane and Neil Balnaves of The Balnaves Foundation. Last year's winner, Adam Cullen, won the $10,000 prize for his sculpture Pegasus Flying over Sydney.

v Incoming Touring Exhibition Grants (ITEGs) – Applications Now Open! - Applications close: Monday 31 August 2009 - M&G NSW is pleased to announce that applications for the Incoming Touring Exhibition Grant (ITEG) program are now open. The ITEG program provides financial assistance to public galleries, visual arts organisations, craft and design centres and exhibition spaces in New South Wales enabling them to bring high quality visual arts and craft exhibitions to their community that they might otherwise not be able host to due to cost and/or distance.

v Tourism NSW Regional Flagship Events Program - Closing 24 July - Tourism event organisers in regional NSW are encouraged to apply. Funding is available for established tourism events that have the capacity to attract large numbers of visitors and reflect the character and culture of their region. v Australia Council For The Arts: Creative Communities Partnerships Initiative - The Creative Communities Partnership Initiative supports major community arts and cultural development projects of excellence. Creative Communities Partnerships support opportunities for Australians to participate in meaningful arts and cultural activities in the places where they live, encouraging innovation and enhancing community wellbeing. Proposals may include a range of diverse but related activities and could be for a period of up to three years for total amounts between $50,000 and $600,000. v Accessible Arts Small Grants - Applications are now open for Accessible Arts Small Grants of up to $1,000 for organisations and arts workers The deadline for funding applications is August 17. This program is designedf to create high quality arts events as part of the 2009 Don’t DIS my ABILITY campaign. Accessible Arts will offer grants to a small number of high quality, sustainable projects that involve partnerships between the professional arts and disability sectors, plus advice to any organisers of arts events who need guidance and support.

v Small Communities Awareness Fund - Ongoing - Purpose of the Program - The NSW Government announced the Building the Country funding package in November 2008.
The Small Communities Awareness Fund is $450,000 over five years to help small communities in rural and remote NSW to supplement or establish an internet website promoting their town and tourism attractions. Funding is for communities with less than 10 000 people.
Grants will be provided to community based organisations involved in local community promotion that demonstrate a clear community benefit in their application. Funds of $5,000 are available per community for eligible projects that demonstrate community inkind contributions and who have not received similar funding in the past. The funding application process is open all year round.

"Generations" is an all ages live music special event at the Bellingen Memorial Hall on Saturday August 8 featuring 4 local Bellingen acts.

v The Friends of the Grafton Regional Gallery's Soup day is coming around again on Sunday August 9th.
"Sesquicentenary Soups" is the title for this year's courtyard adventure in honour of the City of Grafton 150th year celebrations.
Nine local chefs are hard at work developing something special for this very popular day at the Gallery. Mark Hackett-Georgie's, Ricky Worthing-Zack's on Bent Street, Nerada Cotton-Tree Tops, Jeremy Steele-Victoria's, Valerie Swan-Vines at 139, Leanne Brien-Roche's Hotel, Peter freeman-The Emporium, Erin Brown-The Golf Club, and Russel Lowe- South Services are all contributing their considerable culinary skills to tempt your taste buds.
Cost is $20 per person for as much soup as you can consume until they run out. Coffee and cakes will be available on the day for an additional cost. - Last year the event was booked out a week in advance so you need to get in early. Bookings and payment to secure your place or claim a table.

v The Stuart Point Players Theatre Restaurant Extravaganza titled " Poetry, Puppetry and Performance" Performance dates are Friday 7th, Saturday 8th with a Sunday afternoon Matinee on 9th August, commencing at 1pm.
This will incorporate a variety of entertainment including Performance Poetry, Puppet Theatre, scripted plays, musical, vocal and dance items.
The venue will be the Stuarts Point Community Hall.

3 July - 8 August 2009 Three artists are featured at the regional gallery, two of which are landscape artists. Local artist Nigel Killalea is joined by Sydney's Leo Robba, showing very different styles of landscape art. Photographic artist Greig Traynor is also exhibiting with a series of black and white photographs titled 'Nude'. These photographs are nudes and portraits, all revealing a gentleness within their subjects.
