Seeking Volunteers - My Coffs Coast" is a Community Quest
teaming with Palms Shopping Centre, seeking personal ideas about
"what does Coffs Coast mean to you?". A communique
has been sent to schools and the public via the media, with
wonderful entries coming in. Three selections will be turned
into huge oil paintings. The paintings
will be created within Palms Shopping over a period of three
months, commencing September 7th. During this time, we would
like to include an easel set up where parents walking past,
with their children, can have their kids paint on canvases just
for them. This is so that the kids can feel they are a special
part of the Community Quest. Palms Shopping will display the
canvases and then we hope for the canvases to be bought by businesses
or individuals, with the money sent to a charity of their choice.
We need volounteers to help with marshalling the kids and
maintaining parents' involvement while painting. The sessions
would be in 2 hour blocks. |

Walks, talks and history on the Wild Side -
Who doesn't enjoy a stroll along the beach absorbing the fresh
air? This year's Walk on the wild Side provides the perfect
opportunity. The Myall Koala Environmental Group, the originators
of the walk on the Wild Side event, have once again organized
four walks and two talks all designed to showcase the amazing
natural assets of the area.
The Spotlight the Wild Side will be held on Friday evening,
a guided walk led by local identity Christian Patteson from
7 - 9pm. This popular walk is always a huge success. Last year
we saw two wild koalas, seven possums, and a pod of frolicking
dolphins. A little stargazing is also featured - an evening
to amaze you!
Our ever-popular Walks and Talks on the Wild Side starts at
10am on Saturday, 26 September with nature talks being held
in the Old Library. At 11.30 am and 2 pm free guided walks will
commence around the wonderful wildflowers and special places
of Hawks Nest. A walk centered around what natives to plant
on your land is generating much interest!
For those interested in the history of Tea Gardens and Hawks
Nest there will be a Heritage Bus Tour arranged by local historians,
followed by morning tea provided by the Visitor Information
Centre.
A second Spotlighting tour may also be available on the Saturday
evening should the number of Friday evening spot lighters exceed
our expectations.

AquaSculpture 09 - Port Macquarie 16 - 19 October
AquaSculpture is a biennial event which
began in 2003, when Port Macquarie was the fourth City of the
Arts. That was a major collaborative event which formed new
partnerships between artists, environmental managers, cultural
organisers and the Hastings community.
To maintain the event and keep faith with artists, we have a
new format for this year - an exhibition rather than a competition.
There will be a small number of large outdoor sculptures developed
in workshops coordinated by local artists. The major focus will,
however, be on an indoor exhibition.
Local artists are invited to apply to submit small sculptures
or maquettes for an exhibition to be held in the Riverside Room
of Rydges hotel in Port Macquarie, between 16 and 19 October.
Entries close 15 September 2009. The entry form is available
