The NSW Annual LGSA Cultural Awards acknowledge
cultural development initiatives in Local Government, all councils
are encouraged to submit projects undertaken in 2009. The Cultural
Awards are a fantastic way to put your cultural project on the
agenda within your community to your council and beyond.
Submitting a cultural project or initiative is easily done through
the Cultural Awards website. Simply uploading a photo and a
paragraph gets it started and all commenced applications remain
as documentation of the extent of cultural activity by councils
in NSW. The Awards website offers an opportunity to showcase
your work to a large audience including Local Government and
arts industry representatives.
Previous entries from 2008 and 2007 are also available on the
website. Many of these projects have resulted in long-lasting

The Inaugural - Craft Expo Port Macquarie
is progressing to be a major annual Arts & Craft event for
the Mid North Coast . This premier event will bring significant

variety of superior quality art and craft exhibits from all
over Australia. The inaugural event will be held at the Port
Macquarie Racecourse over a 3 day weekend.

The program is run by the NSW Department of Education and Training.

role of Gallery Assistant. The Gallery Assistant is the key
front-of-house contact point for all visitors to Artspace and
has general administrative responsibilities within the organisation

and point of sale. This new position will play a key role within
Artspace, contributing to all aspects of Artspace activity and
will function full time over a five-day week from Tuesday to

Arts Northern Rivers is seeking an Indigenous
Arts Development Officer to carry on the work undertaken by
Frances Belle Parker over the past two years. The Indigenous
Arts Development Officer will support Indigenous visual artists
in the Northern Rivers region of NSW, with the aim of developing
and promoting a strong and visible network of Indigenous artists
through marketing, sales, and professional and business development
initiatives. The position involves updating and implementing
the project business plan, which includes workshops, public
programs, establishing a mentorship program, and working with
artists to establish an artist run organisation. Applicants
must address the selection criteria which include Aboriginality,
visual arts industry experience, project management, funding

30 weeks part time.
Metro Screen has designed this accredited
Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media [CUF60107] scholarship
course to offer talented aspiring producers the opportunity
to hone their skills and take their careers to the next level.
For those with a passion for bringing compelling stories to
audiences.
The course structure and focus reflects the industry need for
producers to now work across all screen platforms and equips
them with the skills to deliver content on time and on budget.
Aimed at those with prior production experience, which may include:
production coordinator, production assistant, post production
supervisor, producer of a funded short film, researcher, runner
on a large-scale feature.

The Liminal Space is now set up and again an invitation is extended
to artists who may be interested exhibiting their works.
The terms and conditions under which the
gallery space is operated make it accessible and affordable
for most artists either as individuals or in a group to put
together an exhibition. Support for the artists is available

a limited number of residencies each year. Residencies can be
tailored around the specific musical interests of individual
communities, and usually culminate in a public concert involving

in its second year, HIDDEN will again take place within Rookwood
Cemetery, one of the oldest and largest cemeteries in Australia.

Camden
Head Pilot Station Artist in Residence 2010 - This year's Artist
in Residence Program at the Camden Head Pilot Station will be
with well respected Botanical Artist Gillian Scott
Botanical Art for Beginners
Gillian will present a series of workshop. Each
part must have a minimum number of 8 participants to proceed
and will be limited to a maximum of 12. The cost for each part
of the course will be $80. Each course will commence with a
get together hour on the Friday between 5 and 6pm to ensure
that all is in readiness for the weekend. Saturday and Sunday
will commence at 9am and conclude at 4pm. Morning and afternoon
teas will be provided but participants are asked to bring their
own lunch. It is a long way to the shops!
A materials list will be provided to participants upon enrolment
All students must have some experience in working with water-colour
paints and mixing colours.

The awards will be presented at Junction 2010 - connecting the
future, Regional Arts Australia's national conference to be
held in Launceston, Tasmania from 26-29 August 2009.

and encourage regionally-based artists and cultural volunteers

Australian Refugee Film Festival Deadline 31 March 2010 -
The Australian Refugee Film Festival is now Calling For Films.
The 4th Annual Film Festival will screen during Refugee Week
2010 between the 20th and 26th June. The main screenings will
take place in Sydney with 3 screenings planned at the moment,
the festival will also be held in each capital city around Australia.
Films need to be 10 minutes or less. The films also need to
focus on the refugee experience either in the Australian or

Head on Foundation invites photographers
to submit images to the 2010 photographic portrait competition.
Prizes will be awarded for the best 3 images. The selection
of images will be done anonymously based on the power of the
photograph rather than the celebrity of the subject or photographer.
Further prizes will be awarded to images selected for 'The Critic's
Award' and for 'People's Choice'.
Finalists' work will be selected by National Gallery of Victoria
Senior Photography Curator Isobel Crombie, Award winning Photographer
Anthony Browell, picture editor and VU agent Isabelle Rouvillois
and Head On curator Moshe Rosenzveig. The 'Critic's Prize' will

Cowra Regional Art Gallery invites entries
for selection into the 2010 Calleen Art Award ($12,000 acquisitive),
the Central West Regional Artists Award ($2,000 non-acquisitive)
and the Peoples Choice ($500 non-acquisitive). The Calleen Art
Award is a nationally recognised award for an original artwork
in any painting medium. The Central West Regional Artists Award
is awarded to an original work in any painting medium or any
drawing medium on paper. It is open to artists living and working
in the Central West Region of NSW as defined by the local government
areas of Bathurst, Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra, Forbes, Lachlan,

The Northern Rivers Portrait Prize 2010 Call for Entries

The Northern Rivers Portrait Prize is a painting and drawing
prize open to artists whose artwork depicts a person from the
Northern Rivers that the artist believes to be of value to the
community. It is open to artists Australia wide. The Northern
Rivers Portrait Prize includes three awards: o The $7,500 Northern
Rivers Echo and Walters Solicitors Overall Winner (Acquisitive
Award) o The $1,000 Andrew and Jeni Binns Emerging Artist Award.
o $500 Lismore Regional Gallery Peoples' Choice Award. A panel
of judges will select the finalist artworks. Australian artist,
Michael Zavros, will determine the winners. , 2010 Entry forms

Communities Partnerships Initiative - The
Creative Communities Partnership Initiative supports major community
arts and cultural development projects of excellence. Creative
Communities Partnerships support opportunities for Australians
to participate in meaningful arts and cultural activities in
the places where they live, encouraging innovation and enhancing
community wellbeing. Proposals may include a range of diverse
but related activities and could be for a period of up to three

Max: $3,000 : A quick response fund for Australian media and

The Mantana Foundation provides assistance
to disadvantaged young people in order to give them the opportunity

Small
Communities Awareness Fund - Ongoing
- Purpose of the Program - The NSW Government announced the
Building the Country funding package in November 2008.
The Small Communities Awareness Fund is $450,000 over five years
to help small communities in rural and remote NSW to supplement
or establish an internet website promoting their town and tourism
attractions. Funding is for communities with less than 10 000
people.
Grants will be provided to community based organisations involved
in local community promotion that demonstrate a clear community
benefit in their application. Funds of $5,000 are available
per community for eligible projects that demonstrate community
inkind contributions and who have not received similar funding
in the past. The funding application process is open all year
round.

Seeds
of Renewal - Seeds of Renewal is a small grants program providing
funding of up to $10,000 to small,
rural not-for-profit organisations for projects and activities
to aid the growth of their community. Independently administered
by the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) and
proudly supported by ANZ, the program aims to assist small rural
and regional communities working towards a more sustainable
future. Preference will be given to applications that contribute

The Community Builders Funding Program
is a community strengthening and capacity building program.
It has funds available on an annual basis for time-limited projects
in particular regions of NSW. The program is funded by the NSW
Department of Community Services.
Non government not-for-profit organisations with an Australian
Business Number (ABN) and local councils can apply for funds.
For-profit organisations can apply too if they have a separate
not-for-profit arm of their business.
Your project will need to operate in an area covered by the
Community Builders Funding Program. The Community Builders Funding
Program is available in certain local government areas (LGAs)
in the following DoCS regions:
North Coast Ballina, Bellingen, Byron, Clarence Valley, Coffs
Harbour, Hastings, Kempsey, Kyogle, Lismore, Nambucca, Richmond

Grants for Small Rural Communities Program -
A small grants program for small rural Australian communities
will offer about $850,000 a year in grants of up to $5,000 to
benefit people in rural and remote communities. Currently, applications
that support the following areas of interest will be given preference:
Community hardship in drought effected areas Retention of young
people in Rural and Regional Australia; and Resettlement of
immigrants in rural Australia Community Infrastructure. There
are two rounds of Small Grants per year closing at the end of

glorious music juxtaposed with verse & other beautiful music
comprises the majority of the concert entitled "In Flanders
Fields " in Port Macquarie Baptist Church.
Renowned Sydney organist Heather Moen Boyd will once again be
displaying her magic on the pipe organ ensuring these two concerts
are not to be missed. Musical Director Robyn is keen to build
up the number of male voices for this music as many know it
& have sung it previously - " the male parts are simply

by Sharyn Killens, author of "The Inconvenient Child",

Sharyn's book reveals the true story of a secret Australian
child's struggle to survive childhood and find her African American

singer and entertainer. While her childhood was at times a living

being delivered in Newcastle for those students serious about
entering the performing arts industry.
Hunter TAFE currently offers the Advanced Diploma in Acting
(Course No. 19246). This course is available only at Hunter
