SUMMARY:Sunday Soundscapes - Sydney Brass
DESCRIPTION:PAUL GOODCHILD Artistic Director/Trumpet ANDREW EVANS Trumpet ROBERT JOHNSON French Horn MATTHEW HARRISON Trombone SCOTT FRANCOMBE Tuba Sydney Brass is one of Australia’s most respected and long-standing chamber music ensembles. Formed in 1958 by Cliff Goodchild (then Principal Tuba\, Sydney Symphony)\, Sydney Brass currently comprises symphony and freelance musicians all of whom regularly perform with major Australian orchestras. Now led by Cliff’s son Paul (Associate Principal Trumpet\, Sydney Symphony) Sydney Brass tours regularly for Musica Viva Australia. In 2000\, members of Sydney Brass featured at the Sydney Olympics for the Opening Ceremony celebrations and during the Olympiad. Sydney Brass has premiered many new works by international composers. They are also responsible for expanding the world-wide brass repertoire through the commissioning of renowned Australian composers\, such as Peter Sculthorpe and Ross Edwards. The versatility of Sydney Brass enables them to perform repertoire that spans several centuries of music\, from Renaissance masters Gabrieli and Monteverdi\, through to modern day musicals and hits from the Beatles. “In over 50 years of live performance\, there are few Australian venues that haven't been the location for a Sydney Brass gig - from cathedrals to conservatoriums\, private gardens to community halls\, Sydney Brass has brought quality ensemble playing to many events”

The most famous acts at the 9th Local Music.Arts.Dance.Extravaganza are Watussi and Morganics.  Watussi is coming to Local M.A.D.E. with their full 8-piece stage contingent direct from Bluesfest including their drummer\, local kid Daniel Saddleton. Morganics is coming back again after toasting the audience with his rhymes last year\, but this year he’ll be co-directing with Travers Ross the MADE Hip Hop Theatre and Orchestra. There is an extensive workshop and rehearsal period in the week leading up to the event and all interested parties are invited.  Also returning to Bellingen is none other than SidAir\, the four local lads who have been cranking it in Melbourne return with a fresh EP\, tighter and with more energy than ever! A special surprise at the event will be Sydney band Svelt\, who have made a name for themselves through their hardwork in the underground scene with a new genre of live hi-energy dubstep hiphop!  Not to forget a solid representation from the doof scene: Multiverse. These artists have chosen to perform to help showcase the awesome young and emerging local talent who will also be performing at the festival.  This is a show run by community for the community and  that hopes to incorporate all members\, as such Local M.A.D.E. incorporated has chosen to make these events alcohol and drug free and are reminding people that they can get High On Life! This year there will be 3 stages\, the MADE stage – for bands\, the Reverb Stage – for Hip Hop and DJs and a Chill Stage/Chai tent for solos and duo acts.  The most promising home-grown bands\, dancers and performers will be showcased accompanied by awesome artworks that will focus on co-creation and upcycling. There will be plenty of opportunities for festival guests to get involved and take part in creating the high on the day.  From the 9th – 13th April there are workshops in music\, arts\, dance\, production\, film\, photography and music industry tips.      Bring a High on Life flyer or show up in a fancy dress costume that expresses your interpretation of the theme and receive a ticket at the door to be in the draw for a (sur)prize.  As usual there will also be a great selection of local markets selling local goods\, food and drinks. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a relaxed afternoon of Tapas\, Wine\, Music and Poetry at the Saltwater Restaurant Emerald Beach 4.30pm 26th February 2012. No cover charge - please phone for bookings phone 66561888 Summer Songs: Night Visions is an end of summer reverie with selected readings of poetry from three accomplished poet/storytellers. The theme taken from the season almost gone\, at a quarter past 2012\, offers pause for thought. Amid the clamour of everyday life and the busyness of the 21st Century\, creative practices fashion alternate readings of the day to day and the places people inhabit. They weave themselves into the fabric of the genius of place and memory. Open space for thought\, empathy\, compassion and the making of wisdom from the imagination and experience. Resonate with the hum of life beyond the ubiquity of technology and time-consuming demands. The work plays on the irony of apprehending the ethereal substance of moments passing\, to become something worth remembering\, something that stands in place as a reminder of the dignity of creative living. SUMMARY:Lucie Thorne - Bonfires in Silver City Album Launch
DESCRIPTION:LUCIE THORNE – ‘BONFIRES IN SILVER CITY’ Album Launch Tour duet show with HAMISH STUART SATURDAY 12th NOVEMBER ODDFELLOWS HALL – WEST KEMPSY NSW Doors 7.30pm Tickets: $20/$15 at the door http://www.luciethorne.com/ Acclaimed Australian songsmith Lucie Thorne will perform at the Oddfellows Hall in West Kempsy on November 12th as part of a national tour to celebrate the release of her stunning new album\, Bonfires In Silver City. Lauded for her unique voice\, poetic lyricism\, and tender-to-gutsy electric guitar playing\, this new album has been receiving extraordinary acclaim across the country\, described by many as her best work yet\, and sees Thorne further hone her spacious\, gritty\, “exquisite miniatures of distilled emotion” (The Canberra Times)\, with that signature warmth and intimacy for which her live shows have become so renowned.. Most of these songs were written whilst on the road\, over the past two years of almost constant touring (throughout Australia and Europe) since the release of her last album\, Black Across the Field. But the sound of Bonfires In Silver City has grown largely out of the musical empathy and camaraderie Thorne has developed during this period with legendary drummer Hamish Stuart. Produced by Thorne in close collaboration with Stuart\, most of the album was tracked live over three days in April 2011\, and shining at its centre is their remarkable duet sound. Expansive\, playful\, loose and real. Thorne’s last album\, Black Across The Field (2009) was awarded Best Roots Album of 2009 by The Sydney Morning Herald\, was short listed for the prestigious Australian Music Prize\, and earned her a place as one of Australia’s most distinctive contemporary songwriters\, and with Bonfires in Silver City she has clearly hit her stride. “Bonfires In Silver City reveals a subtlety and craft that eclipses Thorne’s prior work.” (Martin Jones\, Rhythms Magazine) “Thorne writes some of the most simple and beautiful songs you will hear” (The Age) “I’ve been listening to three great female artists in the last month; the first two\, Gillian Welch and Emmylou Harris require little introduction …the third is a name lesser known\, but her album Bonfires in Silver City is undoubtedly the best of all three. Lucie Thorne is one of our own\, and with this album she makes a firm statement that she is one of our finest. World-class” (Chris Peken\, Alternative Music Group)

SUMMARY:Salut D'amour - Love's Greeting
DESCRIPTION:Salut D'amour - a concert of pure pleasure! In the 1800’s a Belgian composer labelled the violin ‘the king of instruments’. Perhaps this was because of the extraordinary versatility of the instrument. Back then the violin was a star in the orchestral and chamber music scene – these days it is even more of a star\, playing everything from classical to jazz\, folk\, country and rock. Plus the violin has always had an amazing emotional appeal. Just this one instrument can deliver a huge number and range of mood\, from the most tender through to intensely dramatic. On Sunday 9 October husband and wife duo Goetz Richter (violin) and Jeanell Carrigan (piano) will perform the final concert in the 2011 Sunday Soundscapes concert series at the Jetty Memorial Theatre. Their program\, Salut d’amour or Love’s Greeting\, features some of the best-loved works for solo violin. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon outing!
