GAINS: Guide to the Arts Industry of Nambucca Shire

'GAINS': A Guide to the Arts Industry of the Nambucca Shire, is a project that has involved 23 'Work for the Dole' participants for various periods, ably led by Project Co-ordinator, Julia Morrell, to create a cultural directory for the Nambucca Valley.

The project was instigated by Arts Mid North Coast in collaboration with Wesley Uniting Employment and resourced by funding from the Federal Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

Arts Mid North Coast is a regional arts and cultural development organisation that operates across seven local government areas from Great Lakes to Coffs Harbour. This directory is the culmination of a 26-week, work-for-the-dole project that has identified all the significant artists, arts groups, agencies and other culturally related points of contact such as museums, galleries, indigenous organisations, etc in the Nambucca LGA.

The directory provides a useful community tool to identify and contact arts and culturally related individuals and groups and is designed for the use of both locals and visitors to the area. As such, the directory is a useful marketing tool for those involved in cultural industries and who gain employment and income through this sector, contributing to the broader economy of the Nambucca Valley.

Along with the above, this project has also provided skill development opportunities for the twenty participants and a meaningful role over the 26-week project period. Skills developed have included written and verbal communications, interviewing, computer and software applications, marketing and promotions, graphic design and layout, amongst many others.

Arts Mid North Coast commends the work of the 23 participants and the co-ordinator, Julia Morrell in the delivery of this project, the members and volunteers associated with the Nambucca Community Centre for their support and presents this directory for your ongoing use.
